Storage of the food

Food Storage has really been on my mind lately because of the recent natural disasters. We did however have an amazing Food Storage R.S. activity a few months ago that was awesome, so I've really been anxious to get going. It really is only a matter of time before something happens here and I want to be prepared.

Today after school, I told the kids we would have a little activity.

The kids are always up for activities but I explained to them it was a different type of activity.

"Yea!!! What is it, what is it, what is it?"

I took them to our master room closet where our food storage is stored and explained to them why we have it, what its used for, where we go in case of a tornado or natural disaster, etc.

They were very intrigued, especially Pierce.

Pierce helped me with the inventory of our food and wrote it down on a piece of paper. We re-arranged our boxes and labeled them with the contents in it so that it was visible from outside of the box. (When Pierce runs out of room to write, it then just becomes a circle-y mess)

But I thought it was adorable. So I documented that as well.

This activity ended up being a fun one for us all. What I have noticed though, is that we still have a lot we need to get.

THE GOAL:

From now on, every month we will spend $100 on just food storage stuff and get REAL 72 hr kits for each of is and have it all labeled correctly.

At our food storage activity we were give lists of things we should have on hand, etc so that has been a nice reference. I didn't realize how much fun this is either…

After the activity...

Pierce offered the Dinner prayer tonight and it ended with something like this...

Pierce- "Please bless that no tornados will come."

But began with something like this...

Pierce- "Please bless that Cecily won't hit or call people baby. Please bless that Cecily will be nice and won't have to go in a time out."

After the prayer...

Pierce- "Mama, if there is a Tornado and there’s no food, we will have to sleep in your closet and that would be a lot of fun.",

Me- "That would be scary if something did happen like that but you're right, we would still have fun."

That comment right there reminded me of something. The stresses we face every day as parents and spouses, are so minor to our children. They are such positive little people without a care in the world and can turn any experience or thing into fun. I’m so grateful for that constant reminder. When it comes down to it all, all we have left is family. I'm so grateful for our little family.
