Job well done & something sad

Today was a good day but flew by. Well, a good day for me anyway. Jake took Pierce to school this morning and got a speeding ticket, in a school zone. I have told my husband probably a million times that the 4 school zones I go through twice a day, 5 days a week are flooded by pestering cops. I’m not even exaggerating. Every morning and after school there is an unmarked Tahoe and "Chips" waiting to get you. They are such jerks to people too. It’s one thing protecting the kids and school area but its another when they are harassing people to meet their quotas. Anyway, he got a ticket for speeding, 33 in a 20. Can someone please beat him? :)

Other than that, I got a lot of cleaning and organizing done and even got ready for the day, I love it when that happens. I picked Pierce up and he was so excited to show me that he got his Six Flags ticket he earned for reading for 6+ hours. Have I mentioned he’s reading at 1st grade level already too? I am so proud of him for doing that and I think he understands that it took work too. I decided to take them to Orange Leaf for a little treat.

On a sad note…

A little boy of 2 years old was found close to a major roadway by our house (FM423) this afternoon all alone. Someone stopped and noticed that he was alone and getting close to the busy intersection and approached him to ask where his parents were. Without very much communication, he was able to get his name but that was about it. The man started going door to door and happened to knock on our cousin in law’s door to ask if the little boy belonged to her. After a few minutes of talking, they decided to call the police at that point and the search continued on for 45 more minutes. After Orange Leaf we drove over there to see what was going on. As we were driving over there, I was explaining to the kids that a little boy was lost because he left his house without his parents and now the police had him.
Yes, I was trying to scare them and I think it worked.

As we got closer to Katie’s house, the policeman had the little boy by his hand and walking down the street trying to figure out where he came from. I can’t even tell you the pit I had in my stomach. Can you imagine if that were your little boy?

Long story short, they figured out that he had walked almost a half a mile from his “Home day care” and the caregiver was not even there! A young teenager was left to watch the kids and somehow this little guy slipped away. They didn’t even know he was missing, from what I gathered. CPS was called immediately once the police were able to see the condition of this home in addition to no adult there.

Anyway, I thought I would share that since it was part of my day and as a mother, really made me have a sick feeling inside. I am such a helicopter mom when it comes to looking over and watching my kids, it gives me a ton of anxiety but it somewhat puts me at ease when I know where they are at and what they’re doing.

  1. Oh my heck that is so scary! I worry about that happening too but probably don't keep an eagle eye on my kids like I should...Especially Sydnee now that she is getting old enough to want to go outside by herself! So scary!
