So here we go...
Wow, what a great Thanksgiving week we had in Colorado. It is very rare to find families that get together like this for holidays, weddings, and other big events. I didn’t want the week to end and stayed up late to maximize our time. Now I’m feeling the results of that, but it was worth it.
A little town called Canon City, population is about 40,000 and the highlight of this place is Walmart. Not a care in the world when you come here and you feel like a supermodel, without your make-up on. The mountains, open land everywhere, and crisp air makes you want to slow down a bit and enjoy what’s around you.
We have been pretty good about coming to Colorado every Thanksgiving because Jake’s parents live there, his grandparents, and a bunch of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. The Warnock family is very close to one another and have all grown up together. This is how I want our little family to be too.
So, 15 grandchildren all under the age if 11 and about 25 adults all under one roof for the week. Not everyone slept at the ranch but when we got together, it was a big group! The Warnock family have had this Ranch for several years so that all the family can stay and play there. The Ranch sleeps about 40 people easily and hundreds of acres for the kids to play and four wheel on. I would describe this family similar to the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Lots of people, lots of food, lots of fun! Coming from a small broken family, I have really, really enjoyed the big family thing.
So lets back up a bit... On Monday I was running errands and trying to get everything packed and ready to leave in the morning. Well, my day was kindof shortened because of a small incident that involved a trampoline. Pierce was attempting a back flip, attempting, and when he came down he landed on it weird and hurt it. I didn’t take him to the doctor right away because we thought it was maybe just a little twist and it wasn’t swollen or anything, plus he would be around 2 family doctors to look at it in Colorado. I asked him what I could get him to make him feel better and guess what his answer was? Silly Bandz. For a split second I was thinking to myself, UGH, but then thought to myself if that’s what will make him feel better, I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and do it. So I gave in. Yes I'm a pushover. Sometimes.
We gave him ibuprofen and he went to bed without any trouble. I got up at 5am (since we talked about leaving at 5:30am, should have known) and left Texas at about 7am and drove all the way through. I guess I can't blame the driver wanting to sleep in a little later. I'll get over it. So, we stopped twice for potty breaks and rolled into Canon at about 5pm. The kids were great on the drive watching movie after movie and I was busy painting my nails and catching up on my blog posts. We got into town and unpacked and just relaxed and let the kids play with Grandma and Grandpa.
Oops, I almost forgot the unpleasant scene of Grandpa overstressing about a clogged toliet tonight. You're lucky you weren't there. Its all laughs now though... It's ok though, we understand! "We're gonna have the hap hap happiest Thanksgiving (Christmas) since Bing Crosby tapdanced with Danny Kaye!" Christmas Vacation if some of you didn't get that...
Anyway, thankful we arrived safely and the toliet was unclogged.
What. A. Day.
